Palestinian embroidery, known as Tatreez, is a vibrant expression of creativity and cultural heritage. Each stitch tells a story, with patterns and colours reflecting the history, geography, and identity of the Palestinians. This art form is passed down through generations in Palestine, preserving traditions and fostering a sense of belonging. Tatreez is more than just decorative; it symbolizes resilience and pride, especially for women who have historically been the primary creators. The intricate designs often feature motifs inspired by nature and daily life, making each piece unique. Palestinian embroidery is a powerful cultural symbol, celebrating identity and unity.

Learning embroidery offers numerous benefits for one’s personal life. It enhances creativity and patience, as intricate designs require careful attention to detail. Embroidery can be a therapeutic activity, reducing stress and promoting mindfulness. It also fosters a sense of accomplishment and self-expression, allowing individuals to create unique, personalized items. Additionally, embroidery can be a social activity, connecting people through shared interests and community groups. It also has practical benefits, such as the ability to mend and customize clothing, making it a sustainable and cost-effective skill.

Join one of our needlework workshops and enrich your life with creativity, relaxation, and social connections.

The workshops will be delivered by Rifqah Tamimi, a Palestinian embroiderer with extensive experience in all patterns, garments, and cross-stitching.

Rifqah Al Tamimi hails from the city of Hebron (Al-Khalil) in Palestine. She grew up watching the older ladies in her family practice embroidery of all types. She was particularly impressed by her maternal grandmother, who was truly talented. From her and others, she acquired the skill of weaving and stitching. Rifqah is proud of this Palestinian art form and eager to teach it to others who are interested in preserving this heritage. She is delighted to be part of this workshop.
