Islamic Illumination by Esra Al Hamal

Islamic Illumination One Day Teaser… Illuminate a design and take it home.

In this course we will explore traditional methods in designing and painting a shamsa in Islamic illumination. At the end of the day, everyone will have a small finished work of their own. Illuminate a design and take it home.

 

Morning session: 

- Introduction about Islamic illumination + brief history & design background.

- Choosing & tracing a design on paper.

After lunch:  (1 hour break)

- Gold making demo + using ready-made gold to paint the design.

- Outlining & a background choice.

 

Beginners friendly. You do not need to have previous experience in arts or Islamic illumination.

Esra Al Hamal is currently doing her Phd in Architecture and Patterns. She is also a Saudi travel blogger and artist. She has taken a range of intensive courses in illuminations and lately she has been focusing on Persian illuminations using their floral and organic forms known as the "khataie" and "islimi".
