Living map of artists and culture in Palestine
This is a ‘public conversation’ event presented by Az Theatre (London) and Theatre for Everybody (Gaza) collaborating with Architects for Gaza and Ambient Gaza to explore how to network artists in Gaza and the West Bank with artists throughout the world, to enhance recognition and visibility of their work. This will further our aim of nurturing support for the re-building of the Gaza Cultural Centre. We are collaborating with Ambient Gaza on their Gaza Soundmapping Project. By clicking on a location a sound file ‘pops up’ and brings alive that location through soundscapes, voices, music, singing and/or testimonies. We will make contact with artists working in Gaza and the West Bank asking them to work with us on the ‘sound’ map. Architects for Gaza will locate and give commentary on rebuild development sites including the Gaza Cultural Complex. JP from Ambient Gaza will describe the projects development, working with the Gaza Sound Mapping Group and forming collaborations, for example, with We Are Not Numbers and Goethe Institute. We will have artists from Palestine and outside Palestine talking about networks and their work. At the same we will be using the event to amplify the international open call that P21 and Az Theatre have made for art responding to genocide, UNIMAGINABLE. We will also be talking about P21 and Az Theatre’s Open Call for art to be donated to benefit the Gaza Cultural Centre.
