This painting was an expression of the mix of sensations I felt when I saw a video documenting the words of two brothers as they cried and hugged each other. In the video, one kid replied to every question from his brother with the words ‘rah kullu rah’, which means ‘gone, all is gone’; then he silences his brother by moving towards him and giving him a hug. This painting has two central characters united and works to combine their shared suffering; a joint experience of war and a common past to form a single block on the surface of the painting as if they were one character.
