The film directed by Anne Paq and Dror Dayan tells the story of the Kilani family, a story whose roots lie between Germany and Palestine/Gaza.

During the Israeli-led war against Gaza in 2014, Israel bombs densely populated areas of civilians in Gaza and completely annihilates many families. The seven members of the Kilanis, a family with German citizenship, are murdered on July 21, 2014.

This film is about loss and pain, resistance and steadfastness, but also about the political growth and activism of the Kilani siblings Layla and Ramsis, who live in Germany. From their pain and their story, the two draw strength to look for justice for their family and for all people in Palestine.

The story of the Kilani family is the story of many Palestinian families and is a powerful reminder of the recent events in Gaza in May 2021 and May 2023.

Born in 1981 in Jerusalem, Dror Dayan is a filmmaker, political activist and film scholar based in Berlin and the UK. He studied cinematography at the Film University “Konrad Wolf” where he completed his first feature documentary “Even Though My Land is Burning”, which analyses the role of Jewish-Israeli activists within the Palestinian popular struggle in the West Bank. He is currently a lecturer for media production at the John Moores University in Liverpool.
