This is a call to film-makers, video artists and all who love moving images. What have film-makers done? What can they do? Both these films were made as responses to the ongoing struggle against occupation and oppression. We are showing these two films as a provocation to action.

The first was directed by Antonia Caccia. Her films include: ON OUR LAND, STORIES OF HONOUR AND SHAME, BETHLEHEM DIARY. VOICES FROM GAZA is produced and edited by Maysoon Pachachi. Her award-winning feature OUR RIVER…OUR SKY (2022) is on general release in the UK now. She is also an award-winning documentary film-maker. Other films: VOICES IN EXILE, BITTER WATER, IRANIAN JOURNEY, OUR FEELINGS TOOK THE PICTURES. Maysoon’s innovative training courses in Jerusalem and Gaza inspired a whole generation of Palestinian film-makers. Cinematography on VOICES FROM GAZA is by Jonathan Bloom, amongst many other credits, Jonathan did the cinematography for MESSAGES FROM GAZA NOW #3 (installation in P21 Gallery 9th-25th January 2024).

The second is a video journal and travelogue shot by Jonathan Chadwick in 2011. From Beit Hanoun in the north, to Deir Al Balah, and to Rafah in the south, meeting wonderful people on the way. Eventually getting into Gaza in 2011 to follow up the collaboration between Az Theatre and 'Theatre for Everybody' THE GAZA BREATHING SPACE film, edited by Maysoon Pachachi, is a panoramic, intimate and in-depth view of Gaza through the lens of art projects with young people. It features appearances from Hossam Madhoun and Jamal Al Rozzi (Co-directors of Theatre for Everybody) and their families.

These films are a look at Gaza in the past that provoke a reflection on its present condition and the future.
