Public Conversation | PALESTINE: REPAIR & RETURN - Stories of Hunger and Anger
A public conversation presented by Theatre for Everybody (Gaza) and Az Theatre (London)
We set out to ask as many Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank what we should be addressing at our event. The overwhelming response was hunger and anger at the world’s failure to effectively stop the inhuman treatment of the people. We heard stories of friends whose close relatives spent their day weeping, walking the streets in their search for food, of prisoners in occupation prisons, 28 to a small room, being given two baguettes a day, of children, who, when asked to draw, could only draw a burger, shawarma, an egg or an apple, one friend told us it seemed to him, judging by the world’s response, the starvation to death of the people of Gaza is happening on Mars. A father from Gaza told us: 'Praise God that my children were martyred and did not live to see the famine. I say this with all the shock it carries for you, even though it defies every law of longing.’ In Gaza: 71,000 cases of acute malnutrition in children aged between 6-56 months! 17,000 women who are pregnant or are breastfeeding will need treatment for malnutrition! Food assistance alone will not prevent famine!
Our event is an opportunity to listen to testimonies, see video clips, talk to informed sources and raise our cry against inhumanity.
