A conversation with four diverse artists in three different mediums on the power and place of art in creating change. How does art support activism.

SPEAKERS:

Aya Haidar graduated with a BA in Fine Art from the Slade School of Fine Art and a masters in Social Policy from the London School of Economics. She is internationally collected, both in museums and major institutions, with solo and group shows that span the US, Europe and the Middle East. Most recently, her work has been acquired by the Jameel Collection, Guggenheim Museum and the V&A.

She is of Lebanese heritage . A first generation -British immigrant, an artist, a mother of four and a vocal pro-Palestine supporter.

Aya’s work is feminist, humanist and global. Focussing on developing inter-cultural dialogues as a vital step in the support of alternative ways to see the world, and initiate debate about the globalised world we live in.

 

Wayne Campbell,  London-bred, Brixton-born artist, Campbell trained as a graphic designer, before spending years establishing himself as an art director, and a film director, before developing his photographic practice. Wayne believes that 'only through powerful storytelling will art be able to be used as a  catalyst for connection and transformation.

 

Mathew. ‘Mohamed Abdul Mateen, author, Artist, Award winning Film maker and Founder of Migration Films, Matthew ‘Muhammad Abdul Mateen’ Robinson has worked in the media industry for 26 years. His work ranges from Netflix and mainstream TV and Film, to humanitarian documentaries in Ethiopia, Somalia, Yemen, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Lebanon, and Palestine. He also makes investigative films, and covers Palestine protests in the UK.
