"Art of the Palestinian Poster"
P21 Gallery is pleased to present the Art of the Palestinian Poster exhibition, which brings together work by the first generation of artists who began Palestinian modern art – Vera Tamari, Sliman Mansour, Tayseer Barakat, and Nabil Anani – alongside well-known, contemporary artists such as Gazan Hazem Harb, Lebanese musician Khaled El Haber, and new generation Palestinian poster-maker Haneen Nazzal, among others. Originally from charcoal, ink, and acrylics to collage, mixed media on paper, animation, and digital design, some of these beautiful poster prints speak – oftentimes poetically or even sarcastically – to the destruction of Gaza, human rights violations, and world indifference at the rising death toll among children. They also celebrate resistance, resilience, and the enduring Palestinian family. This artwork from the group show Posters for Gaza, shown in Ramallah and Dubai by the Zawyeh Gallery, is exhibited in London for the first time at the P21 Gallery.
Art of the Palestinian Poster explores political messaging of a different nature with another UK first — the premiere of A Bunch Of Questions With No Answers (2025) by Alex Reynolds and Robert M Ochshorn. The 23-hour-long film is a record of the questions about the ongoing genocide in Gaza, posed by journalists to the US State Department during press briefings between Oct 3, 2023 and the end of the Biden administration. As the endless demands for clarification and accountability were repeatedly met with convoluted evasions, the artists chose to edit them out. 'Without the answers,’ says Hakawati’s curator and producer Elhum Shakerifar, 'the questions become the news itself … A staggering lens into the way the genocide has been reported.’
The "Art of the Palestinian Poster" exhibition is part of the 2025 Shubbak Festival. Shubbak Festival (meaning ‘window’ in Arabic) is Europe’s largest biennial celebration of contemporary Arab and SWANA (South West Asian & North African) arts and culture. Taking place from 23 May to 15 June 2025, the festival will showcase bold, innovative, and culturally authentic works across visual arts, film, music, theatre, dance, literature, and debates—connecting audiences in London, across the UK, and beyond.

Some posters are available for purchase, with the proceeds going to the Palestine Red Crescent Society.
In its long evolution, the Palestinian poster is more than a tool of political propaganda; it is art.
